Remote asset utilities

traveler.assets contains convenience utilities for downloading and accessing data used in examples, tests, and documentation, which may need files from remote sources. These tools are separate from the fundamental local-file readers in traveler.io because downloading and caching data is not expected to be part of a normal end-user model workflow.

Install the optional dependencies when these utilities are needed:

pip install "traveler[assets]"

download_asset() downloads a file with optional SHA-256 verification, caching or linking, and archive extraction. The related sha256_checksum(), extract_archive(), extract_zst(), and compress_zst() functions support preparing and verifying those remote assets.

Once an asset is present on the local filesystem, use traveler.io to load its table or skim data into memory.
